Who we are

Cindy L. Abel is a bilingual filmmaker, communications leader, and mission-driven executive with more than 25 years of experience building organizations and creative content that move audiences to action. In 2007, she formed Atlantis Moon Productions to develop projects that launch conversations and impact popular culture. She has directed and produced documentaries distributed on AppleTV, Prime Video, and PBS that reflect her passion for social justice and offer audiences a way to experience and understand urgent needs in the world as well as the inspiration to engage in delivering solutions. As a storyteller, her film, communications, and change management expertise has been leveraged in agency, corporate and non-profit settings to educate, excite, and engage internal and external audiences. 

Abel has the rare ability to bridge creative storytelling with strategic business objectives and her leadership spans LGBTQ+ advocacy, national politics, and corporate America. She served as co-chair of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, held key board roles with organizations including the Atlanta Film Festival and Women in Film/Atlanta, and was the first Executive Director of Stonewall Cincinnati and Georgia Equality. On the corporate side, she has partnered at the leadership level to drive major change management and communications initiatives at companies including AHEAD, Cox Automotive, Keurig Dr Pepper, and AstraZeneca. 

A polished public speaker, writer, and advocate for underrepresented people, Abel leads with an ownership mindset and a bias toward action, and is excited to bring that same energy to leading Out On Film into its next chapter of growth and impact — building on its legacy while expanding its reach, resources, and role in the community.
